Stumble into this place after Dupont Artwalk. Everything was very good except for the chemical cleaning agent smell via the hallway, guess they were sterilizing... Service is on par with this type of restaurant - no complaints! The drinks are ok, not at the level of best cocktail place in DC. Not fair comparison may be... Definitelu will return and should be a good time for you. Food is quite good and rather authentic. Very tasty and will return anytime! Duck Laab - excellent! My fav dish of the night. Spicy but not overwhelming. Great mix of protein and veggie just like many classic asian dishes. Hum choy - not my thing but I am not a a pickle fan. It is ok for what it is. Loas papaya salad- it is good and better that most i have.

LOVED Sura's innovative twist on traditional Thai flavors! Starting with atmosphere: the walk-down stairway decorated with newspaper gives a chic, but mysterious/speak-easy vibe! Once inside, you're greeted by a small, but illuminated bar where they craft fun and unique cocktails! I loved the music and dark lighting in the seating area! Playing poppy/karaoke hits - this place is perfect for a date night or girl's night! The Lychee Collins and Chinari Spritz were both tasty and paired as great refreshers with our spicy food! One of my favorites was the Salt & Pepper Shrimp - they were seasoned well with a blend of salt, pepper, ginger, & garlic - and the spicy cilantro chili sauce really added a kick! The Boneless Duck Laab's lime flavor was really good and we enjoyed the bite-sized duck pieces included! Do not miss the Beef Horapa: the jasmine rice with a fried egg added a lot of texture and balancing flavor to the beef! We were able to try the new special: The Thai Steak Tataki! The olive oil marinated seared steak went perfect with the sweet chili paste vinegar and the pomegranates added a fruity refreshing flavor! And finally - The Lychee Brûlée was such a great twist on the traditional French dessert! The lychee meat hidden inside the sugary crispy shell was a sweet surprise! Additionally, all dishes were plated IMMACULATELY: including pretty colorful floral garnishes! I appreciated the multiple check-in by Chef Billy and the other employees who checked in with us about clearing the table and asking how our food was! Overall would love to come here again!

Honestly pretty pricey for Thai food, but the service was great (friendly waiters, fast food) and the interior was cool, so that somewhat makes up for the prices. I had the pork belly rice which was excellent and flavorful, and my friends got the beef horapa and the grilled shrimp rice. Presentation was nice and I thought portion sizes were fair -- I was starving when I showed up and had a little bit leftover. Definitely a good start for my first restaurant in DC! We also had the cocktails which I didn't find to be that strong -- not worth $14, but maybe worth happy hour.

Well. I really hate giving low star count. I wouid rather not say anything. However. I do want to say something here : only because the way it's presented on Instagram and other reviews : you really feel like you are in for an experience. However EXPERIENCE is lacking. Why ? Well : once a restaurant wants to charge me extra 1:50$ for a spicy sauce, i can not ever be back. It's not fast food McDonald's drive through Let's be real here. Ok. 1:50$ is still not an issue Like i said : i was coming for a mysterious experience. You see and read about on Instagram reels and other reviews but it's not mysterious. And their secret menu isn't even present in any cool way. The waiter. Just gives you some unenthusiastic explanation of what is offered. Our night - it was steak with something. I really couldn't hear. But service was great. With hiccups. Example : bartender Put a sprite bottle in from us and opened. I took it. Then he asked if i wanted the bottle. I just rolled my eyes. Food was great We got Mushrooms platter. It's great I got shrimp egg rice plate - very delicious My partner got pepper shrimp - was ok. No pepper really. Fresh. But nothing to write home about They had just white rice or sticky rice. Amazing presentation. Ambience - loud from people talking. But no vibe. No real music Tables are super close to each other All i want to say is this : Great food. But nothing special. Super small portions I asked for spicy sauce. They didn't have. So he says it's extra 1.50$ for spicy oil. WHAT??? even chick Fila doesn't charge you extra. Nobu. Mastros. I have been to many. And no restaurant ever did. So. I was pretty turned off. Bar fits 5 people Bathroom terribly dirty Chairs were dirty. I had to clean myself. Staff nice but clueless. Experience underwhelming I hoped for so much more Try if you just there for a good meal : fusion of Chinese and Thai.
